When I was in the military, I could not wait to get out of the Army. All of these people are officers and have served a number of years in a military environment, low pay, marginal housing, and some very long hours per week. Now after serving for years they get kicked square in the pants by some obscure regulation. I for one do not approve of this reduction in force, if anything it should be increased not decreased. Is this the beginning of another Pearl Harbor? When I was in the army we had an expression for these incidents, we just said FTA. For you under 50 people ask an old timer what it means.
Gallup poll last month shows Americans gave Congress an approval rating of 9%. Imagine if you got a 9% on your last job eval-how long would you be employed? Worse – they don’t even care. We don’t finance their campaigns, why should they listen to us. Vote them out, get new ones also financed by the big boys- same problem. Don’t know the answer.

To impeach and convict requires 66 votes in the Senate, and with the Senate in Dem hands, they need all 47 Repubs plus 19 Dems to convict. The numbers are not there. The only chance to impeach is if the Repubs take back the Senate in Nov. If they do, chances are Obummer will be gone. If they don’t, he’ll probably be back in for another 4—God help us!

When a state has an open primary, such as the SC republican primary,you always get a lot of spoiler votes, in this case democrats voting for the one most likely to lose to Obama. The true result of the republican votes is not known, a good reason to have voters register as rep, dem, or ind. A voter does not have to register by party in SC, something they should change.
Sad but true!! Simply stated the basis of Social Security and Medical aid programs at all levels were a hair brained idea in the first place. Small government and minimal intrusion into our lives is best. If we want to see the already rich get richer and the middle class get much poorer, we should elect a republican president. If we want to preserve medicare and social security, we should elect a democrat president. The battle is between the rich and powerful 1% and the rest of us, the 99%. A vote for a republican strengthens the 1%, for a democrat the 99%.

Do you think tort reform and selling across state lines will fix insurance? Not likely. Some things like the fire department and medical care work better socialized. Uh, Willard, it was the too big to fail bailed out banks that did the foreclosing. Apparantly the BO program to re-negotiate underwater mortgages wasn’t too effective, but it was the banks not the government that refused to negotiate and foreclosed instead. Sometimes on properties they didn’t even own! If we elect a Republican president this year, we can look forward to at least 4 more years of war to keep the military industrial complex well fed as well as privatization of medicare and social security. You’re going to be financially successful and not rely on these “welfare” programs, so I guess Romney’s your man.
I love the idea of Sara Palin and Michelle Bachman running together for President. They would change things around for the better. This current government needs to all be voted OUT. Terms should be limited. I hope everyone reads the Constitution and educates themselves, then do your Country a favor by VOTING all these crooks out off office!!
I agree ….but the sadder harsh truth is that the vast majority of people would not have invested 15% of their earnings (or even the 7.5% they actually pay in). Then without it, there would be all these additional impoverished disabled and elderly people that the bleeding heart liberals would insist that we have to take care of ….and we can bet the cost of that would be some form of tax that exceeds 7.5%. . It’s a no win situation. I’m all for helping people who are in bad situations through no fault of their own…. But govt policies of helping everyone who screws up or just fails or refuses to help themselves is pure insanity. The challenge will always be how we discern the difference between the plain unfortunate and the blatantly undeserving. And that’s where some standards need to be developed if we are ever going to fix this thing and survive as a nation.
The Congress doesn’t even tell you that not only do they spend all our money…but they are allowed to buy “stock” based on “insider trading” and cannot be prosecuted for doing so! So when they pass laws that will “help” a business or industry, they can invest in that industry before the stock goes up…Additionally, Social Security is NOT AN ENTITLEMENT. We paid into all our working lives as did our employers…it should not be co-mingled with the General Revenue Fund. If it were a fund unto itself…we would all benefit! It doesn’t matter if one is a Dem or a Rep…they are all without a clue how most of us live, because the majority of them are MILLIONAIRES. Look it up!
Eileen…Social Security IS an entitlement..what you and your employer paid was a TAX…and once the Gubmint gets it, it can do anything it wants with those funds. If you think it’s “your money”..go to your nearest SS office, and ask for a lump sum “withdrawal” of “your money…Let me know how that works out for you!
SS did not start out that way. It has been changed by all the Presidents and they are spending it and more. If that money had
been put in to a trust fund like taxpayers were originally sold and told, there would be plenty of money for retirees. Some people didn’t live long enough to even collect. I’ve seen what can happen to money when it is invested conservatively over 20 years and it is

Love the song. I agree with the sentiment. I strongly disagree with the comments about Social Security. I am now retired, but paid into Social Security all of my working years. I am now getting just a small portion of those payments back. I would be way ahead had I been able to invest that money myself. My husband is still working at almost 70 because he loves his job, and still pays in to it. Because of his salary, we pay taxes on both of our SS payments, for a second time. Aren’t we lucky?! And we have to constantly worry about SS going broke because the Gvmt. keeps borrowing from it. I don’t consider SS an “entitlement.” It is my money over which I never had any control.

Entitlement programs? we pay into that program which the government steals from continually and never pays it back. Fact. Well fare is not an entitlement program, but it supports welfare mother’s to keep milking off the system as well as their children who later collect SSI with out as much as an exam to determine whether that child is capable of holding a low wage job. Second, if you think the Post Office runs better than Fed Ex, you are missing a few cells. The Post Office is one of the most inefficient government enterprises there is. Both parties have sold out to the filthy rich, but the republicans have done so completely. At least the democrats are trying to do a little something for the middle class.

When I was in the military, I could not wait to get out of the Army. All of these people are officers and have served a number of years in a military environment, low pay, marginal housing, and some very long hours per week. Now after serving for years they get kicked square in the pants by some obscure regulation. I for one do not approve of this reduction in force, if anything it should be increased not decreased. Is this the beginning of another Pearl Harbor? When I was in the army we had an expression for these incidents, we just said FTA. For you under 50 people ask an old timer what it means.

Gallup poll last month shows Americans gave Congress an approval rating of 9%. Imagine if you got a 9% on your last job eval-how long would you be employed? Worse – they don’t even care. Leslie, your desire is understandable but if it would work, it would probably have been tried by now. To impeach and convict requires 66 votes in the Senate, and with the Senate in Dem hands, they need all 47 Repubs plus 19 Dems to convict. The numbers are not there. The only chance to impeach is if the Repubs take back the Senate in Nov. If they do, chances are Obummer will be gone. If they don’t, he’ll probably be back in for another 4—God help us!
Besides, how can you “impeach” someone who has usurped the office and does not hold it legally?

A leader encourages (enables) people to be self sufficient. Allows people the pride and respect of accomplishment. Lack of leadership is easily spotted by those that always blame others for thiers or your plight in life. Those that buy into that are always dependant on others, do not have or deserve respect. All of us get knocked down at times. Winners get up and losers point to others for thier situation.

When a state has an open primary, such as the SC republican primary,you always get a lot of spoiler votes, in this case democrats voting for the one most likely to lose to Obama. The true result of the republican votes is not known, a good reason to have voters register as rep, dem, or ind. A voter does not have to register by party in SC, something they should change.

Sally – Who do you think is paying NOW for all of the medical shoplifting that is going on when un-insured people show up at the ER and get free care? Yep — you are. And I am. But I believe that if we don’t start to manage all this free give-away care, we’ll never be able to fix it. So the pre-Obamacare status-quo is completely un-sustainable….unless, that is, America starts turning away patients who cannot pay. (*won’t happen).
So recognize that the Republican’ts need to wake up and help fix health care. They are not leading, they are not following. So they need to get the heck out of the way of those who understand the magnitude of the problem.

If we want to see the already rich get richer and the middle class get much poorer, we should elect a republican president. If we want to preserve medicare and social security, we should elect a democrat president. The battle is between the rich and powerful 1% and the rest of us, the 99%. A vote for a republican strengthens the 1%, for a democrat the 99%.

Recently I heard on the news Obama is acting like a Monarch.It can’t be further from the thruth.To get an education thru affirmative action will not give Intelligence.He is acting like a two bit DICTATOR who is naming a bunch of Commisars (he calls them Zars ) to by-pass our elected government.I am supprised he did not suggested a permanent Presidency like Castro,Chavez Stalin etc….There is enough time to use Acorn with the Union bums to collect enough dead peoples signature and illegals to keep him in office for life.

Uh, Willard, it was the too big to fail bailed out banks that did the foreclosing. Apparantly the BO program to re-negotiate underwater mortgages wasn’t too effective, but it was the banks not the government that refused to negotiate and foreclosed instead. Sometimes on properties they didn’t even own! If we elect a Republican president this year, we can look forward to at least 4 more years of war to keep the military industrial complex well fed as well as privatization of medicare and social security. You’re going to be financially successful and not rely on these “welfare” programs, so I guess Romney’s your man.

I love the idea of Sara Palin and Michelle Bachman running together for President. They would change things around for the better. This current government needs to all be voted OUT. I agree ….but the sadder harsh truth is that the vast majority of people would not have invested 15% of their earnings (or even the 7.5% they actually pay in). Then without it, there would be all these additional impoverished disabled and elderly people that the bleeding heart liberals would insist that we have to take care of ….and we can bet the cost of that would be some form of tax that exceeds 7.5%. . It’s a no win situation. I’m all for helping people who are in bad situations through no fault of their own…. But govt policies of helping everyone who screws up or just fails or refuses to help themselves is pure insanity. The challenge will always be how we discern the difference between the plain unfortunate and the blatantly undeserving. And that’s where some standards need to be developed if we are ever going to fix this thing and survive as a nation.

The Congress doesn’t even tell you that not only do they spend all our money…but they are allowed to buy “stock” based on “insider trading” and cannot be prosecuted for doing so! So when they pass laws that will “help” a business or industry, they can invest in that industry before the stock goes up…Additionally, Social Security is NOT AN ENTITLEMENT. We paid into all our working lives as did our employers…it should not be co-mingled with the General Revenue Fund. If it were a fund unto itself…we would all benefit! It doesn’t matter if one is a Dem or a Rep…they are all without a clue how most of us live, because the majority of them are MILLIONAIRES. Look it up!

Eileen…Social Security IS an entitlement..what you and your employer paid was a TAX…and once the Gubmint gets it, it can do anything it wants with those funds. If you think it’s “your money”..go to your nearest SS office, and ask for a lump sum “withdrawal” of “your money…Let me know how that works out for you!

SS did not start out that way. It has been changed by all the Presidents and they are spending it and more. If that money had
been put in to a trust fund like taxpayers were originally sold and told, there would be plenty of money for retirees. Some people didn’t live long enough to even collect. I’ve seen what can happen to money when it is invested conservatively over 20 years and it is
unbelievable. So don’t buy in to what the lawmakers are trying to sell you right now about this money collected. We can thank President Johnson for putting the funds in to the general fund and spending it on his “Great Society”!!!!!

REALY !!!! Some one has to plan for are retirement….Most Americans don’t have a retirement plan. If it wasn’t for SS then the elder that fought for this country would already be dead from starvation. They risked there life’s for are country, but God forgive them if we give them SS. In the long run if there was no SS then the government would have to pay for the elder and disabled and the government would find some way of taking it from the people anyway.

Geez – the Gov’t gave a gift to the Insurance industry by mandating that we all buy their products. Love the song. I agree with the sentiment. I strongly disagree with the comments about Social Security. I am now retired, but paid into Social Security all of my working years. I am now getting just a small portion of those payments back. I would be way ahead had I been able to invest that money myself. My husband is still working at almost 70 because he loves his job, and still pays in to it. Because of his salary, we pay taxes on both of our SS payments, for a second time. Aren’t we lucky?! And we have to constantly worry about SS going broke because the Gvmt. keeps borrowing from it. I don’t consider SS an “entitlement.” It is my money over which I never had any control.

Good for you. I definitely feel for you guys. You would have been much better off inviting that money yourself. You pay 7.5% and your employer pays 7.5%, so that is 15% that you could have invested your entire life. You would have been much better off. Unfortunately, Social Security is a big ponzie scheme, It is a fraud. The Gov. leads us to believe that there is some account someplace with our money in it. This is not true. Entitlement programs? we pay into that program which the government steals from continually and never pays it back. Fact. Well fare is not an entitlement program, but it supports welfare mother’s to keep milking off the system as well as their children who later collect SSI with out as much as an exam to determine whether that child is capable of holding a low wage job. The government under republican control for eight years has raided SS and used up a surplus from the clinton year’s to start a war based on false pretenses of weapons of mass destruction which turned out not to be true. We cant trust any one any more and the voter’s need to wake up and vote out the one’s who created this mess in the first place and start over. If we get into a scuffle with China than we can write off 1/3 or the debt to that country. So the question is: Who in the next 24 months can get their ( pardon my saying)shit together without Some one losing their job or their house and still have a place the enviromentely is still safe to live?

Of course SS and Welfare are “Entitlement” programs…although I believe anyone would be hard pressed to explain how one is “entitled” to the labors of others. You paid a TAX (FICA)…you are paying for the people currently retired..it’s a ponzi scheme. (when started, there were over 120 people paying for 1 SS recipient…now it’s down to less than 3 to 1 !!) And if I were you, I’d read up on history as far as who raided what when…LBJ was the 1st to “raid” the SS “account”…it’s all tax money, and the Gubmint is going to do with it what it will….The only reason Clinton had a surplus was the Repub congress forced a balanced budget!! quick drinking the koolaid and do some research for yourself!

The more the government takes control over anything, the worse the situation gets. Has welfare improved the lot of the poor? NO! It’s EXACERBATES it and creates MORE poverty. Social Security? A Ponzi Scheme. Medicare? More fraud and higher costs. The postal service? It’s insolvent. Get government to stop buying votes with OUR money and make families take care of their own sick and old. We’d be able to afford it because we’d eliminate the high cost of medical care and get to keep most of our money to begin with. The consumer has courts for their protection. I see the need for state or federal oversight, but they are out of control and make it too expensive for companies to do business here. Worse, if you don’t manufacture anything, you will soon have no income. STUDENTS? I worked to pay for college and the the federal government keeps throwing OUR money at the “education problem” yet scores keep falling (even with reduced difficulty tests). The government which governs least, governs best and taxation for wealth redistribution is theft. If you disagree with that statement you are either dependent upon the wealth of others, a politician or an idiot.

Greg: You have to be a government worker to write such an inane comment. First, no private business would provide unsafe food as they would be out of business in a week. Second, if you think the Post Office runs better than Fed Ex, you are missing a few cells. The Post Office is one of the most inefficient government enterprises there is. You cannot compare sending a package for $5 with a mailed envelope. Its apple and oranges. Why do you think most businesses send out items by Fed Ex or by UPS and not the US Mail? It will get there on time and not be lost. And this baloney about people paying their fair share is right out of the Obama class warfare playbook. To him, anyone who is successful is not paying their fair share even though the top 1% of Americans pay 36% of all taxes, the top 5% pay 59% and the top 10% pay 70% of ALL the tax bills. The bottom 50% pay less than 3%. All those government agencies you refer to are used by all all 100% of us. So why do the top 50% pay for all government services and some people in the bottom 50% get money back from them as Earned Income Tax Credit, a government oxymoron. That is paying MORE than their fair share.
In Obama’s world you don’t pay your “fair share” if you are in the top 50% of wage earners. He wants you to pay more and give it to the 50% below you who “really deserve it” . They are not getting their “fair share” of the income. You did not really earn yours honestly if they don’t have as much as you.

I would have to agree that people should have to work for there money. But, you must be one of the upper class because you wouldn’t be commenting like this if you were from the middle working class of America. Lets see you loose your job and see who’s there to feed you, make your house pymts, see what happens when you cant afford health insurance. Your views would quickly change. Would private enterprise provide us with unsafe food if they could make a profit doing it? Absolutely–they do it even when there’s a law against it and they could go to jail for it. I’m glad we have a government that will enforce those laws and put the offenders in jail. Same goes for air traffic safety and building code regulations. And next time my house catches fire or someone breaks into my house, I’ll call the fire or police department. If some other country invades ours, I’m confident that our government-controlled military will destroy the invaders. If I want to mail something, I could take it, along with $5.00+, to my local FedEx office, or I could put a 44-cent stamp on it and leave it in my mailbox to be picked up. I gladly pay my fair share for the government services that make life better for us all, and I wish that there weren’t so many loopholes to enable other people to avoid paying their fair share. Go ahead and hate the government all you want, but I bet you won’t ever be fool enough to try to do without it.

Joe, if it weren’t for the corporations and the rich paying the lions’ share of the taxes in this country, the roads you drive on, as well as many other things we all use, the military that protects us and keeps us free, as well as public sector jobs, would not exist today. Blame the politicians for wasting our tax money and for their constant bickering, which blocks needed legislation. I, for one, am grateful to the corporations and the rich for all they do. Couple of points: In the mid-1800′s Alexis de Tocqueville prophisied that while democracy was perhaps the best form of government, it’s weakness would be exposed when the electorate realized it could vote itself benefits.
That day is here. Just review the largesse President Obama has shown to his ‘to the left’ constituents.
Seems to me the key to America’s greatness was that at a time when in Europe the class system predicted your future, the democracy of America allowed for people to be free to dream
but more than that …with sufficient, skill, intelligence and labor,
to actually achieve their dreams.
Predicated on this perspective, my vote is not for the redistribution of wealth, but for the assurance of equal opportunity.
Beyond that, and because of the observations of de Tocqueville, I would restrict the privilege of voting only to those who have — by way of tax payments — invested in America’s well being.

The Corporations are taking it all. The upper 1 % makes 46% of the income. In 2007 CEO’s of America paid more to themselves in bonus then into all of their workers pension plans. So I person gets more than everyone else get for retirement after working, 30, 40, 50 years.
Both parties have sold out to the filthy rich, but the republicans have done so completely. At least the democrats are trying to do a little something for the middle class.
