Imagine someone with a weakness—they pay a bribe in order to work.  Then when challenged, they decide to strike, not work.

It is also possible they will strike just before finals—meaning that students spent a semester going to class, doing the work, and not being able to get a grade. Will the students sue the union for the economic loss?  Will the State sue the union for the strike.

Will the State de-certify the union for the strike, fire the “teachers” and hire people, without forcing them to pay bribes?

We need a revolution in government education—unions do not own it. Or do they?

Voting begins Monday by 24,000 faculty members at California State University on whether to authorize a strike against the 400,000-student university.

If a strike were authorized, it could mean that the 23 campuses would not open on schedule in the fall, says the union, the California Faculty Association.

Mediation efforts to reach a new contract have failed. Now the process moves to fact-finding, the final step in the legal process to get a contract.

“We hope we will get a contract before the end of this process,” says Andy Merrifield, chairman of the faculty union’s bargaining team and a professor at Sonoma State University. “If we don’t, the chancellor will unilaterally impose his demands on us. And we have to be ready to respond. That is why we are voting now, so that our members will have the time they need to prepare.”

The union says more than half of all CSU teaching jobs — some 12,000 people — are temporary rather than regular permanent jobs.
