Sacramento looking to have public safety without a lot of public safety officers—can not afford them.  The city of Sacramento is cutting back on parks and libraries—no money.

Now the city is out $680,000 for trying to give billionaires a new play toy for their basketball team—an arena.

“A report from the Sacramento city manager’s office says the city spent $680,000 on site planning, funding and negotiations for a new entertainment and sports complex before the deal fell apart.

The Sacramento City Council will vote Tuesday night on a measure that would take back remaining funds not spent on pre-development costs.”

Who says government does not have enough money?  Mayor Kevin Johnsons was willing to use hundreds of millions of TAX dollars to help out his former bosses, the owners of the play toy team. Conflict of interest?  Corruption?  Absolutely foolish.

“According to the city manager’s report, the expenditures add up to $680,000 spent on the project before the deal between the city, Kings and the NBA fell apart.

In addition to city money, the NBA chipped in an additional $200,000 for pre-development costs.

Of that, $141,134 was spent on planning and environmental impact report studies.

City Manager John Shirey also pointed out that, although the current deal failed, money spent on site planning, parking studies and infrastructure analysis will benefit the city now and in future redevelopment efforts.”
