It has always been my belief that ethnics, people of color and those who come here from foreign nations (legally) want a better life and freedom. Too often they see government and the Democrats as the provider of a safety net—without seeing the cost.

High taxes, less freedom, forced to pay bribes to work, streets unsafe, roads in disrepair—yet Democrats sound good when they discuss the American dream. Of course, the “dream” is control by government and the lack of freedom—like Animal Farm, freedom is really slavery in the lexicon of the Left.

Editorial by Stephen Frank—How the African American Community Wants FREEDOM Yet Votes for Government Control

Editorial by Stephen Frank for the California Political News and Views, 12/20/12

Those of you, who know me well, know I am addicted to television. I love detective shows like Psych, Burn Notice and the Mentalist. I am also a foodie, so watch the Food Network, especially Guy Fieri and Rachel Ray. But, I also watch human interest shows, called reality TV, like the show “Welcome to Sweetie Pies” On the OWN (Oprah) network on Saturday nights.

Ms. Robby Montgomery is 72 years old, used to sing with the Ikettes and was a professional singer for 50 years till her voice gave out. After several different careers, she started a restaurant in St. Louis and now has three very successful facilities. Her first place was “Sweetie Pies”, the specialty is soul food. Being successful, she opened a second and then her dream place, “The Upper Crust”.

It took her three years and $4 million worth of loans to open the Upper Crust. A lot of permits, problems, cost over runs, but this was her dream, she calls it her legacy.

This is a story about persevering, overcoming problems and helping family without the help of government. None of the loans were government—in fact, the government turned her down. Her son Tim runs “Sweetie Pies”, very well. But spent ten years in prison before he turned his life around. Her grandson Andre is 16 and a failure at school—but she hired a therapist and a tutor to help him—she did not blame the system.

This is an African-American family that wants opportunities, not handouts.

A few months after she opened the Upper Crust, the Veterans Administration, which has a major facility behind this restaurant notified her they wanted to buy the land and building to make it a parking lot. Though she has $4 million in loans, they offered $1.1 million for everything. The VA knew this was being built, watched it being built, money spent, tears and sweat used—yet said nothing till it was finished.

Now the Veterans Administration is threatening to use EMINENT DOMAIN to take the Upper Crust—which creates revenues for the city and dozens of jobs and build a parking lot instead.

During the interview portion of the show, Ms. Robby, all 72 years of her, demands to know why the government is willing to steal HER dream. Why is the government threatening to steal her property. She says, and she is right, she is living the American Dream—and she gives back to the community in numerous charitable acts.

Why, she wonders, does the government have the right to take from taxpayers and good families?

Yet, the show never showed her making similar complaints about the level of taxes, which government steals from the rich who create jobs (like her). She never complained about the government stealing other people’s property or that government can take property even when the owners do not want to sell.

Only when government comes after her, Ms. Robby, does she complain. Maybe she is like many in our society—until government harms them directly, they are silent or ignorant. St. Louis is famous for its civic corruption and use of tax dollars to buy votes and whole communities. The African American community in this town as in most are silent about Constitutional rights for others—only when they are harmed do they complain about the abuse of government.

If Ms. Robby wants to stop the eminent domain, and the use of her tax dollars to steal her property, maybe she should join the local Republican Party and the local Tea Party. Maybe if she stands up for all rights, someone will stand up for her rights. Why should we fight her battles when she voted for those who are out to take away her Dream—and she still does not recognize that. Until she does, the Upper Crust will make for an expensive parking lot. Yet, she will never realize she was part of the theft herself.

The African American community needs to wake up to how they are used and abused by government, unions and Democrats. African Americans are losing jobs to illegal aliens, but President Obama gave these foreign born criminals amnesty. Until the community fights back for all, they will stay mostly without hope, they are victimizing themselves..

Dear Stephen Frank
The worst thing to happen to the African American community. This is due to the fact that he produces shows with characters who perpetuate the notion and/or stereotype that African Americans are loud, rambunctious, classless, and uneducated people who lack long-term goals, as well as a serious view on life.
