It is important that we understand the motivations and actions of our leaders. Importantly we need to understand their agenda. The Vice Chair of the State Party, Harmeet Dhillon, is unknown by many. Few know of her years on the Executive Committee of the Bay Area ACLU. Until this morning I was unaware she was a supporter of an organization that opposes “SLAAP” lawsuits. “SLAPP stands for “Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation” and refers to lawsuits of the type filed by rich, powerful and influential against their critics in an attempt to shut them up by grinding them down with expensive legal actions;”

Yet Dhillon did just that, filed a lawsuit that many characterize as a SLAAP suit, trying to stop an online blog from discussing Charles Munger (who has been one of her law clients). Republicans are losing registrations, we have almost no candidates for statewide office, Democrats have targeted several of our elected for defeat for next year, the State owes $127 billion—shouldn’t the Vice Chair of the Republican Party be working to elect Republicans and speaking out on issues instead of protecting a very, very rich politico?

Harmeet’s Free-Speech Hypocrisy

Munger Games, 8/26/13

As noted in our last post, Charles Munger Jr.’s attorney and political proxy, Harmeet K. Dhillon, is suing The Munger Games. Dhillon is also the Vice Chair of the California Republican Party. She alleges that our use of a photo of her violates copyright law and is demanding that our hosting company divulge to her (and Munger) private information about The Munger Games.

So we have Munger using the Numero Dos officer of the state GOP as his catspaw in an attempt to bully a critical voice into silence.

Out of curiosity, we searched the Internet to look for any examples of other websites using the same photo of Dhillon, and found at least five…four of which we linked to in the previous post. The Munger Games decided to reserve the fifth example for it’s own post due to the richness of the irony.

The Public Participation Project is an organization dedicated to “Fighting for Free Speech” by working to pass anti-SLAPP suit legislation. SLAPP stands for “Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation” and refers to lawsuits of the type filed by rich, powerful and influential against their critics in an attempt to shut them up by grinding them down with expensive legal actions; sort of like Harmeet Dhillon’s lawsuit against The Munger Games.

Click on this link and you’ll be taken to a page on the Public Participation Project’s website listing prominent people who support this group’s fight against attempts to use lawsuits to silence critics. Scroll down and whose name do we see: Harmeet K. Dhillon…accompanied by the very same photo she is suing The Munger Games for using!
