California has the highest taxes, the highest cost of housing, 14% or more unemployment and cities are going bankrupt—literally. Now California and its liberal heritage has something else to crow about—the top three cities in the nation with the worst roads are in California—Los Angeles, Oakland/San Fran and San Jose. All three cities are on the verge of bankruptcy due to collapsed, expensive pension systems. Cops have been fired in all cities, cut backs in basic government services—taxes up and bonds sold. A recipe for fiscal disaster—just ask Vallejo, Stockton and San Bernardino.

Los Angeles Roads Ranked Worst in the Country

The roads in Los Angeles are terrible—and that’s not just an opinion.

The Los Angeles-Santa Ana-Long Beach area ranks first among big cities for the percentage of roads in poor conditions. This causes more than headaches; TRIP, a Washington D.C.-based nonprofit, estimate this costs drivers more than $800 per year. Their study says about 64% of roads in the greater Los Angeles area are in poor condition.

TRIP based their study on the Federal Highway Administration’s data from 2011 that catalogs the condition of major roads, including potholes, rough pavement, utility cuts, and cracks.

The city isn’t ignoring the problem; Council Members Joe Buscaino and Mithcell Englanger hope to include a proposal to issue city bonds for the work on the ballot in fall 2014.
