The San Diego Unified School District has made it clear, the color of your skin, not your qualifications will get you a job in their District. The Superintendent is not concerned about the quality of teachers and administrators, he is concerned about the color of their skin. Maybe George Wallace has come back in the form of Superintendent Cindy Marten? She is an open, but honest bigot—just like Wallace.

“White students barely make up 25 percent of the student population in the San Diego Unified School District, but two-thirds of the teachers and counselors in the district are white.

That lack of diversity among the district’s teaching staff and management is a concern to the school board and school Superintendent Cindy Marten.

Hopefully the parents will demand the Board fire the bigoted Superintendent. San Diego has turned into Birmingham, Alabama circa 1955. Shame.

Closing San Diego Unified’s Student-Teacher Diversity Gap

By Marissa Cabrera, Maureen Cavanaugh, Peggy Pico, KPBS, 4/14/14

White students barely make up 25 percent of the student population in the San Diego Unified School District, but two-thirds of the teachers and counselors in the district are white.

That lack of diversity among the district’s teaching staff and management is a concern to the school board and school Superintendent Cindy Marten.

A recent report revealed, that while Latinos account for almost half of students at the district, the majority of teachers and counselors are white.

The district says it’s working to find ways to expand the hiring pool of teachers to insure more diversity. That outreach may be tested soon, as the district offers an retirement incentive program which could open up hundreds of teaching jobs.

On KPBS Midday Edition today, we’ll discuss the effort to insure that teachers and management at San Diego Unified reflect the diversity of the student population.

The entire educational establishment is about "jobs" for the dysfunctional and the illegal. I graduated from Reseda High School in 1969. We were the best: academic decathlon, Greek, Latin, lyric poetry, Shakespeare, Donne….we had more graduates in Ivy League schools than any other school in the Valley. I recently visited the same school. If you only knew how to speak English, you'd be at a disadvantage. This was a Third World school. Don't believe me? Go for a visit…This not the America that made us the envy of the world….
