Remember this posting. In a matter of months, if not weeks, the Beverly Hills Hotel an iconic landmark and its’ sister hotel, Hotel Bel-Air, will be sold for pennies on the dollars. A massive government led boycott movement against the ownership of these hotels has taken place. On after the other major organizations have announced moving their events from these hotels. Corporations are announcing their executives will not stay at the hotels—even the Hollywood elite have stopped using these facilities for trysts and fun. Hollywood is boycotting.
It seems the Brunei government owns these facilities. Recently the government of Brunei has adopted Shariah law as the law of the land—stoning for adultery, women treated like slaves, honor killings approved, etc. Wonder when these same boycotters will start standing up for woman in Michigan, forced in several communities to live under Sharia law, with the American government allowing it?
“Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said, “The decision to implement the (Sharia penal code) is not for fun but is to obey Allah’s command as written in the Quran.” His U.S. properties, including the Beverly Hills Hotel, are being boycotted over the new penal code that calls for punishing adultery, abortions and same-sex relationships with flogging and stoning.”
Latest to boycott sultan of Brunei-owned Beverly Hills Hotel is Reseda’s Jewish Home for the Aging
Hollywood is responding to harsh new laws in Brunei by boycotting the Beverly Hills Hotel, which is owned by a group controlled by the sultan of Brunei. The Reseda-based Jewish Home for the Aging is the latest group to pull an event scheduled for the hotel

Brunei’s Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah said, “The decision to implement the (Shariah penal code) is not for fun but is to obey Allah’s command as written in the Quran.” His U.S. properties, including the Beverly Hills Hotel, are being boycotted over the new penal code that calls for punishing adultery, abortions and same-sex relationships with flogging and stoning
A boycott by Los Angeles-area organizations against the Beverly Hills Hotel is growing, with the Reseda-based Jewish Home for the Aging the latest group to protest the facility’s Brunei ownership.
Brunei, which owns the hotel through an investment group, recently adopted the very strict traditional Islamic penal code Shariah, which calls for harsh penalties including stoning and flogging for adultery and homosexuality. That has triggered calls for boycotts by, among others, the Beverly Hills City Council, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and celebrities such as Jay Leno and Ellen DeGeneres.
The Jewish Home for the Aging is moving its annual Legacy Circle Luncheon, which honors those who have included the organization in their estate plans, from the Beverly Hills Hotel to the Beverly Wilshire Hotel, according to marketing director Bonnie Polishuk. She said the group’s deposit for the event was returned.
The expanding boycott movement also applies to the Hotel Bel Air, which is also part of the Dorchester Collection of hotels owned by the Brunei Investment Agency, a division of that country’s Ministry of Finance.
The sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, last week called it a “great achievement” by his country in adopting the new laws.
“The decision to implement the (Shariah penal code) is not for fun but is to obey Allah’s command as written in the Quran,” the sultan said, according to The Associated Press.
Christopher Cowdray, chief executive officer of the Dorchester Collection, said the company recognizes the concerns of the public, but does not believe a boycott should be directed at the hotels or their workers. He would not discuss any cancellation of events planned at the facilities.
The two hotels employ an estimated 875 workers.
“The economic impact of this not only affects our loyal team members but extends to the local community, our valued partners and suppliers,” Cowdray said in a written statement. “Today’s global economy needs to be placed in a broader perspective. Most of us are not aware of the investors behind the brands that have become an integral part of our everyday life, from the gas we put in our cars, to the clothes we wear, to the way we use social media, and to the hotels we frequent.
“American companies across the board are funded by foreign investment, including Sovereign Wealth Funds.”
Cowdray said they have continued to receive support from hotel guests and business partners.
Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer and some Los Angeles City Council members have said they would refuse to attend events at the two facilities and the city of Beverly Hills called for them to be sold.
The Motion Picture & Television Fund says it won’t hold its annual Night Before the Oscar party at the hotel as it has for many years. Richard Branson announced his Virgin Group and its 50,000 employees will not stay at the hotel.
