California is in a Depression. We have high unemployment, $340 billion in debt, plus massive unfunded liabilities. AB 32 kills jobs and makes staying in the State expensive. So, yet another survey, 700 CEO’s, shows California the worst place in the nation to do business.

What surprises me is that business continues to support Democrats for office that create these policies. What really surprises me is that the Board of Directors of firms do not demand the CEO take the company out of the State. Going to Texas, for instance gives an automatic 10% increase in profits.

“The survey also highlighted the passage of Proposition 30, which raised the state’s sales tax as well as raised personal income taxes for the highest earners in the state.

Marketing archenemy Texas takes the number one spot for business. Florida comes in at No. 2, followed by North Carolina, Tennessee and Indiana.

Rounding out the worst states for business: New York at No. 49, Illinois, Massachusetts, and New Jersey.”

Surprise! California ranks worst state for business on another list

California ranks dead last in yet another ranking of states and their friendliness to businesses.

Melissa Wiese, Sacramento Business Journal, 5/12/14

It’s another day, with another list slapping California as a place unfriendly to businesses. According to a survey of more than 700 CEOs, California ranks dead last.

The survey by Chief Executive magazine ranks the best and worst states, measuring CEO opinions on regulations, tax policies, workforce quality, educational resources, quality of living and infrastructure.

California got dinged for taxes, and workforce quality, but got fairly high marks for living environment. Everyone loves the weather here, right? The state’s relatively high unemployment rate — 9.8 percent in December — compared to the national average didn’t help the rating.

The survey also highlighted the passage of Proposition 30, which raised the state’s sales tax as well as raised personal income taxes for the highest earners in the state.

“CEOs continue to tell us that California seems to be doing everything possible to drive business from the state. Texas Gov. Rick Perry, by contrast, personally makes it his mission to lead corporate recruitment and economic development efforts in his state,” said J.P. Donlon, editor-in-chief of Chief Executive magazine and ChiefExecutive.net, in a news release.

CEOs perceive California as hostile to business thanks to regulations and taxes, which may lead to companies moving business to other states, or not coming here in the first, place, according to a news release from Chief Executive.

Folsom lost what was once the region’s largest publicly traded company to Texas. Most recently, the same planned community that snared Waste Connections in Texas has taken to advertising in Sacramento and San Jose.

Thumbtack.com also recently tagged the Golden State as the most unfriendly state for small businesses.
